GX270 Multimedia Audio Controller Not Functioning

I re-installed WinXP on my GX270 and now my audio does not work.  I checked the Device Manager and I notice that the "Multimedia Audio Controller" is listed as non-functioning.
 
I've tried re-installing the driver from on-line sources, I've tried uninstalling the driver and letting Windows plug-and-play try to re-install it, but nothing seems to work.  I also tried downloading the three audio drivers listed in the Dell Support download area, but those didn't seem to work either (all failed during install due to non-matching audio equipment).
 
Anyone have any ideas how I can get my speakers working again?
 
Anyone know how I can even find out what sort of audio card I have so that I could go to the manufacturers website to download drivers?
 
Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    By "reinstalled," do you mean you formatted the drive and did a clean install, or did you just throw it on over the existing installation (bad idea)?  If the former, did you make sure you reinstalled the chipset drivers first thing after your operating system?  If not, that could be what the problem is.  As far as which audio device you have, it's listed on your system invoice.  If you can't find that, post your Service Tag ID here, and someone should be able to help you get things figured out.  Unless you ordered something special, it's probably the Analog Devices ADI 198x integrated audio.
