High CPU usage... HELP PLEASE!!!
Hey,
My computer is "pulsing" very high CPU usage whenever I start internet explorer... Even after closing explorer it still does this. I checked my virus scan and that didn't help.
When I click on the taskmanager, the system idle proces is very high in cpu 70-90. and iexplorer.exe also is pretty high. There's also a funny.exe that seem to be very active. I've tried to delete this file but it won't allow me too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

hi brikelleytry these steps out
(1) Click on start > control panel > click on Internet options click on Deleted cookies ok, click on delete files and put a check mark on deleted offline content and click on ok, click on clear history and click on yes.
(2) again under internet option on the top right click on advanced look for Browsing and under that look for Enable third -party browser extension if it has a check mark uncheck it and then click on apply and OK.
(3) click on start > run > type in prefetch then click on the edit button on the top left click on select all and then press the delete button on the keyboard
(4) click on start > run > type in msconfig under general put a check mark next to selective startup,
on the top right click on services at the bottom there is a ok button just above it there is an option called Hide all microsoft services put a check mark next to it and then cleck on disable all and click on apply at the botton right. after that again on the top right click on startup click on startup and click on disable all and click on apply on the botton right and click on close it will ask U to restart the computer so click on restartif this also does not work download spyware doctor from the internet to see if UR system is infected by spywaregood luck and god bless

I had the same problem with my system. Even did a clean reinstall of the OS (XP MCE 2005) on my XPX Gen 4 8400. Everytime...High CPU usage. I knew it had to be a driver. Getting to the chase. This problem happened after installing the driver for the NVidia Gefore 6800 card.
Then I installed Zone Alarm (ZA) with my continued fustration to find out the problem. ZA identified NVidia Driver Helper Service (NVSVC32.EXE) wanting access to privileged resources. ZA info button says....
NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 77.79 is trying to create a new process.
The current security setting for NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 77.79 does not permit this action, or else ZoneAlarm Security Suite is asking you whether you wish to allow this behavior or not. Your computer is safe.
NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 77.79 has attempted to create a new process on the system. This action is currently not permitted. If you trust this program and believe it requires a process to be created then give it permission. If it does not need a process to be created, or you know that a process should not be created, then deny it.
Why?
NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 77.79 is potentially malicious. This is particularly true if the new process will load malicious programs or utilize an excessive amount of CPU time, memory, and other resources.
MY RECOMMENDATION: DO NOT ALLOW THIS. If you have Zone Alarm change the setting to Restricted (Ask Suspicious, Deny Dangerous.) Since doing this on my computer...I've been able to use it like it was intended. This was an arduous task to finally have this box running the way its was intended. THIS WORKS! NVidia should recode this driver. It is a necessary service to use the video card.

After 6 days of intensive research and try this-try that..... I was able to reduce the high CPU usage from 100% to 2%. Keep in mind the high cpu on a DELL 4550, P4 2.0 GHZ with 384 mg ram was pulling the 100% usage with no programs running.
The probabliity of this being virus, spy ware etc. related would appear to be high.
The FIX:
F2 SYSTEM SETUP
CPU INFORMATION
IF CPU SPEED IS SET TO COMPATIBLE... CHANGE TO NORMAL

I resolved the problem by replacing the Angel Media TV Card and NVidia 6800 with an All In Wonder ATI x800XL card. No messing with drivers, services, etc. Its been working great since.

Download Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta) from www.microsoft.com and run a spyware scan.
