Intel 82865G Graphics Controller

I have a Dimension 3000 with the above graphics controller and I need some advice.

My daughter just received the Stylin' Studio game for Christmas and it does not work properly. The video camera that comes with the game works thru My Computer, but not thru the game itself. I made the requisite calls to the manufacturer and they insist the Video card needs an upgrade beyond the Sept. 2005 upgrade that Dell offers via the download site. I am not looking to spend a pile to make a $49 game work better. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Regrettably, there is no easy way to fix this.  The Intel Graphics is the onboard, integrated, graphics processor in the Dimension 3000.  It lacks certain hardware capabilities, usually having to do with shading and lighting, possessed by newer graphics processors.

To resolve this problem you will likely need to install an add-on video card.  The Dimension 3000 has only standard PCI slots, so you must be sure to procure a card that has that designation.  Any card labeled with "AGP" or "PCI-Express" will not fit.  Cards using nVidia graphics processors that are made in PCI versions are the FX-5200, FX-5500, FX-5700LE, and FX-6200.  ATI and other manufacturers also make such cards, but regrettably I am not familiar with them.

It would be advisable to look at the specifications for your daughter's game as these will often state the models of graphics adapters supported.
