Maximum RAM, Optiplex GX110

I'm industrious enough to read my system Doc where it says I can only go up to 512Mg of RAM, but too lazy to look through the forum. Is this limit only a limit of the shipped BIOS -- and if so I can just upgrade the BIOS to put in, say, a 512Mg DIMM into each slot? Or this just a basic system architecture limit? I run Linux pretty much all the time if that makes a difference -- in case it was just a Windows problem at some point. Thanks!

It's an Intel chipset limitation with the 81x series chipsets.
