No sound Dimension E521
So I have had this Dimension E521 for about two weeks now and I noticed that I don't have any sound available. If you open up Sounds and Audio Devices, most options are "grayed out" (unavailable). Including the option to "Place volume icon in the taskbar". I have tried testing out the Windows sounds under the Sounds tab and the option to play is also unavailable. This is just an onboard, built in sound card.
The other thing I noticed that was weird was that under Device Manager, I have an Unknown PCI device. I have not added or removed any PCI devices but for some reason this appears as well. I almost want to believe that this PCI device and my sound problem are tied in together. All other devices are working properly and it has performed well.
I didn't follow any particular order when installing the drivers for the PC but, I am under the assumption that there is a supposed correct order for this procedure.
I even went as far as using the Dell Connect support. The technician reapplied the latest BIOS revision and performed other troubleshooting steps that I had already taken. His answer was that everything looked and appeared to be running properly and suggested I reformat and reapply the drivers in a given order. It would just seem to me that Im missing a driver. I applied these two drivers but had no luck:
-Tried the Creative Labs Integrated Audigy Invitation
-Tried the Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD Audio
The audio is also enabled on the board.
I welcome all thoughts and suggestions.
- I recommended this machine to a friend to use for his business. Fortunately, audio is not required for him to be successful so I just let him use it as is. I'll be visiting it again sometime in the near future to try reinstalling the drivers as posted above. I have also tried just the audio drivers and it doesn't make a bit of difference.
- Hi @ all,Drivers for a Standard Dimension E521 audio chipset can be found http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R132395.EXE here.You have to use this SIGMATEL AUDIO Device Driver, if you not upgraded to a better Soundcard as the Soundblaster for example. No Wonder, if you tried Soundblaster drivers, its not working.B. rgds.djbuzz
Got a similar problem. Did an XP install on a Dell E521 (got rid of Vista). Now have an unknown PCI device and no sound. I tried to download the R132395 but it leads me to remove the Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated controller. I think that will disable my internet access. What do I do?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Try reinstalling the chipset drivers first. Once you have them installed you can install the video card drivers followed by the sound drivers. You then can install any other drivers you may have for other devices you have connected to the system.
