Question about system
I got a new XPS Gen 5 recently and everything runs smoothly EXCEPT:
About twice every day it slows down for about 5-10 minutes. It seems to be completely random because I have not picked up any pattern as to what could be causing it. All I know is that when I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete I see that the CPU usage has been bumped up to around 50% instead of the usual 0-5%. I don't know why this happens but it's starting to get really annoying when I'm on my brand new computer and major slowdown occurs out of nowhere. I know this is kind of a broad question but could anyone help me or tell me what it could be or maybe what I could look for to fix this problem? Thanks.
I know this question may not fit this forum but I did not know where else to post this question!

I already tried using msconfig through the Run command (I did it by myself a while ago and Dell Support on the phone told me to do the same thing). I don't have much running in the background, and I've already checked every startup command and everything makes sense. Thanks anyway but I still have the problem.RunToTheSun

Try this: open Task Manager, select the Processes tab, then click View, then Select Columns. You can check additional items to monitor. I would select CPU Time, and Peak Memory Usage. This might help you to figure out which process is ambushing you and hiding when you try to find it in Task Manager. Also, in the main processes screen, check the box marked "Show processes from all users"RunToTheSun

I’d really appreciate if someone could give me some more information, dell support over the phone told me to come to this forum so this is pretty much my last resort. I just need some help because I don’t want to have to live with this really annoying problem every day.
- I would uninstall all of the Dell Support garbage that they like to pile into new systems. Sometimes it would tie-up resources on my 8200 until I deleted it. The peak usage info won't fix anything, but it should highlight the programs that are bogging your system down - then you can investigate that software and hopefully solve the problem. Good luckGrant

anyone know?- when it slows down, open task manager and select the Process tab. See which particular process is consuming 50% cpu you mentioned, and report back. And is this when it is connected to the internet? If so, does it also do it if not connected to the internet (ie. unplug your network cable)?

I'd also like to add:
I called Dell Support and told them about this problem but they couldn't do much to help. They told me to watch my CPU usage on the Ctrl+Alt+Delete menu but nothing showed up when the problem came up again. I've tried using Ad-Aware and McAfee but they haven't detected anything. I barely have installed anything on this computer (and keep in mind it's new). The only things I installed on my computer are the same few simple things I installed on my old one (which did not have this problem).
