slow boot up and sysytem locks up

I have a new 8100 P4 which occasionally takes a long time to boot up. It also seems to lock up in the middle of an application or shuts down all together. I'm a new user.

    Lee-deanna,

Do you have a USB mouse and a Turtle Beach Sound Card? If so, others have suggested that you need to disable the PS/2 mouse in Device Manager. If you don't know how to do this, post again, and someone will help.

    Lee-deanna,

If you are using a USB mouse and keyboard. The problems maybe caused by an interaction of the two devices, the Motherboard on the system and Windows itself.

There are two possible workarounds for this issue:

    1) Turn off PS/2 mouse port in the system BIOS. (Recommended option)
During the system POST press F2 key to enter system setup
Press down arrow to highlight 'Integrated Devices' and press enter, an other window appears
Press down arrow to highlight 'Mouse Port' and use numeric keypad - (minus) or + (plus) to change value to 'OFF'
Press Esc to leave to this window
Press Esc to exit system setup
Press Enter to 'Save Changes And Exit'
    System will reboot

    2) Turn off USB legacy support in the system BIOS.
During the system POST press F2 key to enter system setup
Press down arrow to highlight 'Integrated Devices' and press enter, an other window appears
Press down arrow to highlight 'USB Emulation' and use numeric keypad - (minus) or + (plus) to change value to 'OFF'
Press Esc to leave to this window
Press Esc to exit system setup
Press Enter to 'Save Changes And Exit'
    System will reboot

Please let the group know if this helped resolve your
    slow boot problems.

    Regards,

    Tom P.
