The E510/5150 does not support either Core 2 Duo, or Core 2 Quad processors.

The above processors require different motherboard voltage regulators, that the e510 does not have, hence the reason for the e520.

There are many different Dell computers with motherboards that have a Socket LGA 775 and not all Socket LGA 775 motherboards support either Dual core, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors.

Please post the computer model, also, the default processor that's already installed.

This is not an answer to this person's question, but also a question in the same regard. Have recently ordered a refurbished Opitplex GX520 and was wondering if a Core 2Duo Processor eg: E6850 would be accepted by the motherboard/BIOS. Of course it's a socket 775 chip, best guess is only Pentium 4 or Celeron is accepted. Please advise.

    chipsc

The Optiplex GX520 does not support any Core 2 Duo processors.

The fastest processor that's supported is the Pentium D 2.8Ghz.

    Also, the following:-

    Presler P4 Kit, 950, 3.4G, 2X2MB, 800FSB, C1
    Prescott P4 Kit, 650, 3.4G, 800FSB, 2MB, R0
    Prescott P4 Kit, 650, 3.4G, 800FSB, 2MB, Socket-T, Mainstream, N0

Prior to installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version A10, or higher installed, when support for newer processors was added.
