windows installer

After reformatting a long time ago, I'm still having system problems. For instance, my dad installed microsoft office under his name, and when I go to open word under my name, it attempts to install it. It does this for all office programs.

Next, when I try to install acrobat, iTunes, photoshop, or tivo desktop it says there is an 1607 error or that there is a problem with windows installer. The first thing I did was google the error and a few good sited came up and gave me some instructions, none of which worked. I am now in the process of chatting with dell to resolve this, but chances are you guys know more.

Lastly, under network connections, it doesn't show that any connections exist. I have tried wiring the computer via USB from the modem and through ethernet. Neither time does it show that I have a connection or let me select anything options or properties. This makes setting up the network that I will need to run Tivo desktop.

What is going on with my computer? Should I reformat it again and hope it solves the problem? Thanks. Also, I have a dimension 4550 with xp.

This is not a hardware problem. You should post in the XP forums.

You might want to copy your Dad's profile and delete yours. That would be the easy way to fix this.

Check your drivers to see if there is a conflict or problem with them.
