XPS 630 "problems" question
There are lots of various threads regarding problems with the XPS 630, the main one seeming to be Dell's choice of motherboard. Since mine is on the way, I have a question:
Are the bulk of people experiencing issues more of the "power" users? Is it the gamers that are having issues - those who may want to overclock or have the lights work as advertised, etc? Other than adding peripherals (dedicated sound card, 2nd optical drive), I will be using mine for business applications and the web but not games. As I stated in my other thread, I know I could potentially get a "dud" right out of the box. But assuming I don't, if I don't tweak the SLi stuff or overclock, would I be less likely to experience the problems of the other people? There are many happy XPS 630 owners that I have seen on these forums.

I foudn that the process ntuneservice.exe was the culprit. Once I ended this process using Task Manager all problems go away.
This process is part of Dell_System-Utilities-ESA - nVidia performance which comes preinstalled. It is the program that controls the LEDs, fans and allows dynamic changes to clocking settings, etc. Uninstall this and you will have no problems.
Once a fix is distributed, you can later install the fix and your desires to exhibit chartreuse lights in the front and lavender tinged green in the back can be realized.

So what you both are telling me is once I initially set up the machine out of the box and before I install any software, I should go either to control panel or progams (if nTune is listed), and uninstall it. I will still have normal full access to normal video adjustment, but I will lose those "special" settings that I don't have any plan on using anyways (gaming).

Once I determined that my optical drive problems were caused by nTune (ESA control) and deleted this single program, my 630 works wonderfully well - powerful and stable.
Once a fix is out, I will reinstall this bit of software and will be even more happy.
I haven't had any problems, other than the ever-blinking hard drive light (which you will also inevitably inherit seeing as it hasn't been fixed yet).
Maybe I've just been lucky/fortunate, but my 630i is fast, delivers excellent gaming performance, and has been easy to upgrade with extra RAM, another optical drive, and a soon-to-be-added rear exhaust fan. :)

If as yoiu say you will be using the 630 for business and web with no overclocking or games then if you uninstall all ESA related software I believe you will find the system more than able to satisfy your needs.
