8600 Powering/Overheating
I've had my 8600 for a little more than a year now, and just recently I've been having problems. The computer has been running slowly, and it gets
really hot
really fast. It gets to the point where the keyboard itself gets extremely warm, and nothing I could do (cleaning the fan, etc.) would fix it. If I left it on for more than 48 hours, I would often come back to a completely locked up computer. After powering off, I would have to wait about an hour before I could power it on again. If I tried just after turning it off, the green LEDs would light up for about 10 seconds and then it would return to its normal powered down state.
It's gotten worse lately, with the computer locking up just shortly after booting Windows, and the powering on problem occuring more frequently. At this moment, I can only boot to a black screen that comes up after the Windows XP loading screen.

- I'm a gamer, so for the most part, I try to clear as many unwanted background processes as possible for the best performance. If I find a process I don't recognize, I always check http://www.liutilities.com/ before ending it or removing it. I run Adaware, Spybot, Norton, and defrag about once a week. There's really nothing I've been doing differently, so I don't understand why the sudden changes. I've done some reading, and it sounds like I might have a bad motherboard. Of course, I'd like to see if it can be fixed before I go spend my hard earned cash.
