The only other option is to buy a Dell LCD from eBay. This search prompt may help:
- Hi all,
well WolfensteinAR, i think that change all LCD is not a good solution, only is neccesary to change two elements.
I'm in the same problem, my screens becomes to dark when i reboot after a time working, i need to let it to rest about 10
hours if i want to see anything.
I'm working with gnu/debian linux, and i need to restart several times X system (graphics system) to do screen to work, in
console after mentioned 10 hours of rest, screen looks well. I don't probe with windows because last time he can't to start, well he start
well but screen no, and in windows i can't to restart graphic system to do work the screen.
When i sucess start to work screen, i haven't problems, i can work all time i want, last time my i81K works for 19 days
without interrupts, buts after of this i need to wait two days to become works with my computer.
I think, reading same problem in this and other post, that this is a inverter and background lamp problem. I call to Dell, but
his solution is that i need to change all LCD, about 700€. This is no solution, because two elements that i need cost about
150€ which i can read in other post.
Really Dell service in Spain is so bad, probably i will never buy other dell, and i will take legal methods against they.
My question is, where i can to buy these pieces (background lamp and inverter) in Europe? Can i buy it to dell? There are
other place to buy these pieces?
Sorry for my bad english, i hope that you can understand me.

Lobo. Inverters can often be found with www.clonesuk.com. I've bought 2 there myself for my I8000 and although the first one only lasted 3 months, the second one seems to be doing better. I paid approx 60 bucks for the inverter. Apart from them I haven't been able to find a lot of sites who sell them. Tried IBM (as I have the IBM panel) directly but no luck.
The discussion goes on but still no measures from Dell to actually start selling this part separately. The only answer I keep getting from Rance & Co is that there is only a small number of users with this problem and that the views of this forum is not the view of the Dell community as such. I recon we are starting to get the numbers up........

Well I had this problem to (Inspiron 8000) Dell were no help. Bought a inverter from www.clonesuk.com and all was fine. It may not be profitable for Dell to provide these parts but they really should as part of customer service.
Imagine buying a brand new car and then 1 year later having to buy a whole engine because the alternator is faulty...
Yes, I strongly agree with you guys. Why doesn't Dell provide all their parts to the customers? Whenever a customer has a problem in a particular part, they'd suggest the customer to replace the whole thing.
You are lucky if you are under warranty. But in my case, my warranty just expired 2 months, three problems haved occured so far. I'm pretty sure that I can fix the problems simply replacing a few parts. The parts should be under $100 USD. I called them, of course, they are not responsible to my problems (actually is their problems), they just told me to try to replace the Motherboard, which is $600 USD. They said they do not guarantee if it fix the problems or not.
Is it really worth it? I don't think so. I am afraid that there will be more problems within this year. This is what Dell acts like, for those of you who want to be a dell customer in a future time, I suggest you to not to to so.

What is Dell's problem with not providing spare parts, and overchargining the prices of those parts when the user has to order them? Thanks God for eBay.
BTW, an Inspiron 8000 motherboard by comparision is about 60 bucks on eBay.
