BIOS update A07: do I really need this?

I have an Inspiron 5548 with original BIOS version A03.

Today I received notification (screenshot below) from the Dell Update app that a BIOS update needs to be installed. The Dell Update app does not provide details of the BIOS update, but on Dell's site I see that the latest BIOS version for my system is A07, released 9/30/2016.

Questions:

1) How will this update improve my PC?
2) If it's important, why was I not notified 7 months ago?

Thanks

Hello!  So the rule of thumb is if your computer is running fine, do not update the BIOS.  Reason being is if something were to happen then your computer would be inoperable or 'bricked'.  The latest BIOS for your computer just updates the battery charge time for windows 10.  The previous 2 updates improved thermal performance and overall system performance but I doubt it would be something you would notice if you haven't had any issues.

Thanks I will disregard the BIOS update. Is there a way to decline this particular update in the Dell Update app without be pestered forever?

If there isn't a decline option, no.  You could always uninstall the Dell Update software itself.
