The controller is a 3C920 chipset.  It will work fine with a 3C905BTX driver...

You may also want to make sure that the BIOS has the "DOCKIng NIC" (or sime similar naming) enabled.  The BIOS has (or at least had) the ability to disable the NIC in the docking station...

I know that on the C8x0 systems,  it is confusing because you have the internal Mini-PCI (or on system board) NIC,  and the NIC in the docking station is a second NIC.  It is sometimes difficult to tell which NIC you are working with when you are docked causing you to updsate the wrong NIC's drivers, etc.  I simplified my life by disabling the internal NIC in the docked profile,  so that only the docking station NIC was active...

Since my original post I have tried the Docking Station with various C series laptops all running different Windows OS but none worked, in desperation I have purchased another Docking Station - absolutely identical same product code PRX same serial numbers at the begining etc. and this worked immediately again on all the laptops tried.

I have just been to the 3Com website and downloaded every variant of the 3C series drivers available and I'm going to give it one last shot before trying to return the original CDock as if none of these drivers work I can only assume it faulty.

Still open to further suggestions though please.

I might be in the same boat as you, but I can't take mine back as i bought it on auction. I see that the NIC lights are on. I know that the card at least has power. When I try to load the two drivers mentioned on these forums (the 3C920 and the 3C905BTX), I get the error code 10. Let me/us know if you are successful or not.

Well, actually, I have a CPx laptop, but the Port II is the same. Whenever I try to install the 3COM drivers mentioned (on XP) it doesn't start up.

Anyone have anything else to try? I'd really like to get it working. the manual for it says that XP will simply install all of the drivers, but that is NOT the case. Help!

The laptop I have doesn't have an internal NIC. I do have a PCMCIA wireless card that is funtioning, but the only other device is the NIC card in the Cport II replicator.

I downloaded the manual for the Cport II replicator, and it specifically states that if running Windows XP, that the drivers will be installed automatically, which is not the case. It goes on to say that the NIC indeed uses the 3Com 920 chipset, but when I try to install those drivers, i get the same response as the others, 'Device cannot be started, code 10'. I'm thinking at this point that the NIC in the Cport II is not what the manual states it is.

Heck, I'd even try to load the Win2k drivers for it, but I cant strip them out of the Win2k docking software...
