Im having issues charging the battery on my inspiron 1501, so far the only way I have been able to charge the battery is by doing these steps.

1. shut down computer

2. remove power cord

3. hold indicator button on battery down for 10 seconds

5. replug power cord

after these steps the battery light will turn on and I can restart the computer with my battery charging.  If not I will recieve the dreaded "Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge." message.  Can anyone tell me why this proceedure allows my battery charge?
