Just got our first D410 today.

 

First impression: it looked like an HP. Without the Dell logo, many would mistake it for one.

 

After turning on the system for the first time, Sysprep hung. The mouse/trackpoint stayed to the right side of the screen.

 

After a hard shut down and restart, Sysprep finished, but I had to use the keyboard to go through the initial wizard as the mouse was still going haywire.

 

After the system finally booted into the OS, the mouse behavior did not change.

 

I applied our corporate image in hopes of better results. The image took fine. The touchpad works, but the trackpoint will only move horizontally. This tells me there's a hardware issue...loose connection?

 

At any rate, other impressions were that it emits tons of head. At the bottom of the LCD at the Dell logo, it was hot to the touch. The fans were going full speed. After letting it just sit there for a while, the left side vent/fan was spewing nothing but heat. I had the DVD drive bay plugged in and it was warm from the air blowing out of the system.

 

My concern is our clients are going to hate the heat. Hopefully, with the lid closed and the LCD panel off, there won't be a heat issue.

 

Performance wise, the system is fine. Not really any different than the D400.

 

I'm calling support tomorrow to see what can be done about the trackpoint. As this is our first system, it might just be a fluke, but the C610 series had issues with wandering mouse behavior and I'd hate to see it's return with the D410.
