My brothers Dell Latitude E6410 works perfectly while powered by the battery but once you plug the mains lead in the screen backlight starts to flicker, and after anywhere between 30 seconds to 5 minutes the backlight goes completely.

But if you then unplug the charge cable the screen backlight returns as normal.
