Errors caused by dead CMOS batt
I belive my CMOS battery is dead (Lattitude c600). For a couple of weeks, on boot up the system didn't know time/date. The problem is that now the system won't power on at all. No lights no nothing. I have tried removing the battery, hard drive, pcmcia cards & hard drive to see if it will power on, no luck. Occasionally after its sits for a couple of days it will power up with the following message.
"**** Manufactoring Mode: Level [01] ****
Press Fn-X to return the system to normal running mode.
That message appears for about 5 - 10 secs and then the machine continues to boot. The computer then works fine. But if I shut it down it will not power on again. No lights no sounds no nothing.
From what I can determine I have either a bad chip or motherboard. My question is that as the first symptom was the apperance that I had a dead CMOS batt, could this be the cause of my problems? or is a dead cmos batt not something that could cause these sort of catastrophic problems.
Thanks
