The later 61's are slowly getting faster again after a big drop.
If you want DX8.1 speed stick with 44.03 it's the speed king, nVidia has left DX8.1 behind and are focusing on DX9c.

Running 61.71 is just fine for DX8.1, it's not the fastest but will run all games.(remember a lot of fixes have been added in every update)
44.03 is the fastest for DX8.1, but some games won't run on drivers that old.
Were only talking small differences, if 61.71 runs all your DX8 games just fine stick with it.

Good thing is, you have a choice,

When you say that v44.03 is the "speed king" for DX8.1, does this mean that 44.03 drivers run 3d apps and games the best as well, or does this apply just to the benchmarking apps?  I have an Inspiron 8200 with a Quadro4 using v61.71 with Pieter's modded INF and was wondering if I'm better off with v44.03 if I play a lot of DX8 games.  Thanks.

In looking at those benchmarks, do you get better results than:

v61.80  6702 (3dmark01) and 1271 (3dmark03) with your inf?

I know it's not a fair comparison since you have different cpu/ram, etc.  I've had success with your modded INFs so will continue to use them...  Just wondering if you tried his INF, then yours as a comparison.

I'm running 61.80 at the moment.
The benchmarks are slowly ramping up again with these later drivers. (very slowly)

61.80 is a good driver for Dells as it fixes that '%#$%^' TV-out problem (the leaked version I found was a Dell build !!)

Just remember if a driver works for you, stick with it,

well, I tried the 61.80s with your INF and for some reason when I try to disable the SBA feature (which is causing freezing of my system...and this also occured with earlier 61x drivers) and select Apply, it automatically checks SBA again....

is this a bug with the driver?  is there something in the INF that I should change so that I can shut off SBA and let it stick?

you know, I messed around with the settings a bit more before even seeing your last post....

it seems that unchecking SBA, then hitting Restore Defaults actaully kept SBA unchecked...it's as if the Restore Defaults button was mapped to the Apply function....

anyway, that made it work.... no more lockups and just completed Painkiller after a month! (at full High settings....) 

Under [nv_tweaks] in the INF place this line

HKR,, EnableAGPSBA,                  %REG_DWORD%,    0

Then reinstall driver this will force the GPU to not use SBA.
I'll add this back into future INFs, not worth the extra 1% performance, it's easier to change once it's in the INF.

Why, o why have Dell choosen this path ?
They do things very awkwardly, TV-out, certain UXGA screens now SBA.

Never mind, we wouldn't be here if everything was as it should be.
