Function key volume control not working Inspiron 1501

Hi, I run an Inspiron 1501 Windows XP SP2. I'm having alot of trouble with my function key(fn) and volume control. The fn key works for my brightness and darkness and pretty well everything else, the only problem is the sound (up, down, or mute). I don't think it's a hardware problem, seeing as everything BUT these things work. Maybe something's just blocking it from working correctly? The only way i can adjust volume now it by clicking the icon in the tray and doing it manually, or changing it with my media player.

Please help if you can! =0

Make sure you have the on screen Volume Meter enabled. The keys don't work unless it is. Click on the QuickSet icon on the toolbar to select it. More info on this in your manual or in Help.
