Heating up

I have a Studio 1558. I have 8gig memory, and 240 SSD.

I have about 180gig of free space-not much used. I have noticed that my cooling fan has been running frequently. I have Real Temp GT checking heat levels. They are showing between 160f to 185f when running no programs? I occasionally run the vac cleaner to keep the ports clean. But I can't figure out as to what is running the temp up? The fan seems to be working-I hear it running constantly any more. I don't play any games on the computer. And the virus protector I use is Malwarebytes on full time.

Any ideas as to why it's running high in temp?

Thanks for your time.

Given the age of the system, replacing the thermal pads that sit between the CPU, GPU and heatsinks would be  very good idea.  So too would be verifying that the fan(s) is(are) working - the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup) will check the fans.

    This is Dan again.

I forgot to mention that my room temp is on the cool side-probably around 60f. So I don't think that would be the issue of heating the laptop up.

    Thanks for the reply ejn63.

I guess, it's off to the shop time. I'm not one to get inside a laptop, a desktop, yes, but not a laptop.

    Thanks for your time. Dan
