Inspiron 4000
Hi all,
I have a laptop Inspiron 4000, service Tag 2NYN41S.
Before, the keyboard had fail some key. I bring my laptop to PC care to prepair.
I think they disconect power and unplug battery so along time, thus bios had been lost.
I updated Flash bios reversion A23 which download from Dell website. After screen Dell logo appear, the top screen has a error "Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility". I don't know why sound card (ESS Maestro 3) cannot accepted driver. Before, I used the driver download from Dell website and this correct but now this not. I tried so many driver download from Dell website and ESS Technology but problem cannnot solve. All of other hardware is OK.
Please help me solve this. If you have Original Factory Bios Flash of Dell Inspiron 4000, please send it to me

Thank you your reply, ChrisBut I checked all already, bios battery is ok because date and time system not be lost when disconnect AC and battery power.I tried to reset to default bios setting then set date and time again but the problem cannot be solve.I used Dell diags to test all of hardware. when I test Sound card message is "Vendor 125, Product 1998 Multi-media".I think to have 2 things:1. my Flash bios reversion is not correct. Because boot screen is different the one before. If you can found Original factory bios version of it. Please send it to me.2. Sound card on main board have problem.OK. Have you got any others? Hi,
You may have a faulty MBD. The Bios can be downloaded from the Notebook tab above. Flash it from the floppy, not from windows. The MBD is the same as a Latitude C600, and if you buy one be aware that there are many part numbers, and not all work with all speed CPU's. It may be worth looking for a PCMCIA or USB soundcard. ( you will have to use external speakers )

Hi,
If the Bios battery goes flat, you will lose date and time. Some Bios setting may also change, and the flat battery is why you get the message F1 or F2. The audio driver is on the HDD, and should be unaffected. Test the audio with the Diags to check the hardware.
