i went thru the same thing when i bought...

what i came up with:

intel processors are faster (1.6GHz Intel = 1.8GHz AMD)

intel processors run cooler

intel processors use less power

AMD processors are less money (per GHz)

i stuck with intel

core duo or core 2 duo is intels 2 core processors (2 processors in one)

duel core is AMD

The information you provided is exactly what I was told before.  However, I was left somewhat confused since my desktop System's information indicates the following:

AMD 64 X 2 dual core processor 3800+  2.00 (GHZ)

this means you have a:

AMD 64 processor (brand, and its a 64 bit chip)

x2 dual core (2 processors in one chip)

3800+ (the model of the chip, in your case 2.00 GHz)

intel uses their own numbering system, which seems to change all the time...

it used to be just numbers, then it went to a letter folowed by 4 numbers (eg. T9300, or T5150), none of them mean anything, just some number they chose...

Zandra for your usage, I'd say either would do you fine. :smileywink:
