keyboard issue

I recently reinstalled windows and since doing the re-install I have had an issue with my keyboard. Sometimes it works ok and other times when i try to click on a box to type the keyboard automatically fills it with lots of "p's". So for example I could click in this box to write this post and the keyboard would just automatically type pppppppppppppppppppppppp without me pressing anything.
Last time I had an issue like this I remember being asked to download something but I cant remember what and I have looked at the drivers/downloads section and I cant see anything relating to the keyboard. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
My laptop is the inspiron N5010.

    Hi sear69,

I suggest you to update the Chipset drivers and BIOS:

Please use this link to update the Chipset drivers: http://dell.to/15E0OxV

Click the link, select Download file and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Restart the system check the LED lights status. If the issue persists please update the BIOS from the below mentioned link:

    1. Click this link: http://dell.to/18pOrmJ
    2. Select Download file and save the file on the desktop.
    3. Ensure to connect the AC Adapter to the computer and the Battery charge is above 15%.
    4. Close all the open programs and make sure to save all the data in the computer.
    5. Run the previously downloaded BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS.
    6. Restart the computer when prompted.

Check the functionality of the keys.

If the issue persists, please clean the keyboard, refer this link: http://dell.to/17nYAmZ

Also, if possible refer this link to clean Laptop's keyboard by removing the keys : http://dell.to/1cnfMu1

If the issue persists even after trying the above steps, the keyboard needs to be replaced. If the computer is under warranty, I would be glad to arrange a service on the computer. Please check warranty status by entering the service tag of the computer in this link: http://dell.to/13VPd97

Please private message me the service tag, registered owners name and address.

To private message me please click my user name and click Start conversation.

In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services.

If the warranty on the computer has expired, below link would help you in contacting expired warranty services (this is for US based customers): http://dell.to/VPYT4T

    Awaiting your response!

    Hi sear69,

I would like you to check the functionality of the Keyboard in safe mode with networking.

Check in Safe Mode with Networking.

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Keep tapping F8 on the Dell Logo Screen.
    3. Once the computer enters Advanced Boot Option, select Safe Mode with Networking.
    4. Press Enter.

Check the functionality of the keyboard in safe mode with networking. Also reply with the Operating System installed in it.

Also, I would like you to check the physical appearance of the key “P”, check if the key “P” is stuck or not.

We can test the functionality of the keyboard using PC Checkup.

To run PC Checkup, click Start->All Programs->Dell Support Center. Click PC Checkup under Dell support Center. Select Custom Scan, and then run a test on the keyboard. The test asks you to press all the keys on the keyboard, if the keys are not working during the test, the keyboard needs to be replaced.

    Awaiting your response!

OS is windows 7 home premium

I did the keyboard test and in the pc checkup thing it recognised all the keys fine, it all worked ok, however it does seem to be an intermittent issue as it does not always do it, and when it does, if i restart the laptop, then it goes back to working properly for awhile before it chooses to randomly do it again.
