Wow. Thanks for that. Yeah I think i get it now. Before i re-installed windows 7, everything was fine, now its gone all weired. Yeah i think i need to install a UK keyboard driver cause (you guessed it) im from the uk :P. My keyboar looks exactly like this http://img.alibaba.com/photo/277447540/Brand-New-DELL-6400-630M-Keyboard-UK.jpg and i think yours looks like this? http://img.alibaba.com/photo/278292428/Brand-New-DELL-Studio-1555-Keyboard-Backlit-US.jpg. They are almost identical, except for the @ and " being in different places. Cheers for the response, i think i know what to do now :).

I'm not sure I can be of much help with your issue,  but a couple of things came to mind as I read your post.

1.  Where are you located?  United States, UK, or?   The reason I ask is... I am in the US and until I was silly enough to marry a Brit (*laugh*  NOT the best decision of my lifetime... ;o) ), I had no clue that  keyboards were different in different countries...even in the case of the UK where the language is pretty much the same..  Yeah I know... typical American who thinks the whole world looks exactly like my very own back yard.. ;o)

2.  On MY laptop keyboard, When I press the shift key.. and then each number key... I get ~!@#$%^&*()_+, which if I am not mistaken, is EXACTLY what you are getting as well... but... it sounds like this is not the result you were expecting?  As for pressing the shift key and the @ symbol, and ending up with this:  " instead of the expected: @, that is a strange one.  Might I ask... on your keyboard, where is the key located which shows the @ symbol?  On a typical  American English keyboard, the @ symbol is located on the number 2 key .... and the " symbol, is located next to the "enter" key on the right hand side of the keyboard.

I could be WAYYYYYY of base, but if I were to hazard a guess,  I would suspect that you are European, and have acquired a computer with an American keyboard?

The upside of the issue (in my opinion anyway) is that this should be an issue EASILY fixed.  I have replaced laptop keyboards several times.. successfully even *grins* after having had NO experience fixing anything hardware related on a laptop... EVER.  I assume your laptop is still under warranty?  I suggest you do a online chat with tech support so they can send you the correct keyboard.  The new one will arrive with all the tools and detailed instructions you need to swap them out.  The first time i did it, I had tech support on the phone with me the whole way through.. (because I was terrified I was going to completely destroy my computer.. hehe)
