LCD backlight

My 2 years old Inspiron 8100 has got some problem. From time to time, the screen becomes dark. Using a strong external light, however, I can still see something on the screen, so I do not think the problem occurs in the video. I suppose, the backlight switches off. I have also discovered that if I press FN+F8 without external monitor, the screen becomes readable again for a short while. Any idea or advice? Could it be repaired? Csaba

yup, sounds like your backlight is on it's way out.

How to replace your laptop backlight tube, http://home.attbi.com/~stonent/screenfix.htm

This has been discussed many times before if you do a search of the forum. If you are running on the power cord rather than battery go into the bios and turn down the backlight power settings to the lowest level.

Unless the backlight is too far gone

Ok, I have to admit that I did not search too long before sending my question. I will try to find out if the problem can be fixed using the suggested methods. I am living in France, and I do not now if I can find a shop or order the necessary parts (CCFL + inverter) for the repair here. Anyway, thank you for helping me.
