Problem with re-install
I am doing a complete reinstall of my Inspiron 8500. I have WinXP/Home installed but cannot connect to internet. I checked the hardware device manager and "other devices" is a question mark with all items under it also question marks. I have searched all the cd's I got with system and cannot find any drivers. I could not find the Intel Mobile chipset so I downloaded that (R53196.exe) and installed before doing anything after the XP install completed. I followed the re-install doc RG1076523. Can anyone tell me where to find and how to install the drivers needed for these devices (ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Modem, and Video Controller (VGA Compatible) ).

Tim, thanks for your reply. I have tried doing that, just trying to install everything listed on the CD Resource disk. Still no luck.
I think most of the problem is that it calls it an Ethernet Controller. I have no idea what this translates to on the resource disk. My packing slip slows nothing but "Intregrated 10/100 network card and modem" Not much help there either.
It's got to be there someplace, all I need is some direction in finding it.
And the search goes on!
FOUND THEM, I'VE FOUND ALL THE LITTLE BUGGERS.
It has taken most of the day, but I finally was able to determine exactly what the actual devices were and then was able to download and install the drivers.
I only hope I got the right ones. They seem to be working, my sound is back, the LCD image looks great, and I'm typing this now on the internet connection.
Now to finish with the rest of the stuff needed to get back to where I was yesterday. But I just might wait till tomorrow for that, tired.
Tim, thanks again for your suggestions
Bob

Good luck.
Tim
Sorry, bad link. Try running the setup program on your drivers CD. Then when it runs you can execute them one at a time.
