Screen Goes Black when using power supply

My Inspiron 6000 Notebook will boot up fine with the power supply attached but once its booted the screen goes black. If I boot the PC up on the battery only, everything works fine.
Why cant I use the power supply?

    Hi,

Do you have a " pinkish tinge " to the screen ? If so the backight may be failing. The screen is often set brighter on mains, turn it down as far as you can and see if it stays on. The Pink is often seen before they fail. When it goes out, look for a very dull image, if it is there the backlight is faulty.

Yes the screen does have a  pinkish color to it. I went into bios and turned the settings up when using the battery and its no longer pink right  now.

I didnt do anything with the settings when using the battery.  It was set for max...(suggested setting)
maybe I should turn it down a couple notches?

SO...if this is the blacklight, is my lap-top repairable?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi,

If you turn the brightness down, you will be able to use it for longer. It is repairable, Dell will sell you a new LCD but a cheaper option is have the backlight replaced by a specialist repair shop. There will be links if you look through these Posts, some have done the job themself, but not for most.

    Thanks Chris.

I did turn the power down and now I can use the laptop with the power supply.
I will look for the links that you are referring to so that I can replace the blacklight.

Looks like I have a little time left and really should react to this very quickly.
At least you have helped me prolong the life of my laptop. I really depend on it a great deal!

Thanks again for your help and keep  up the great work of helping others!
