    rchely31,

You may want to start by running the Dell Diagnostics on your computer to make sure there are no hardware problems. There should be a copy of the Diagnostics on the Drivers and Utilities CD, or, when you boot up the system tap on the F12 key and see if the Diagnostics are listed in there. If not, download them here. Run the symptom tree test for the hard drive, and if you would like to be extra thorough you can run the extended diagnostics. (Warning... when they say extended, they mean extended!)

If you chose the short route and just test the HDD (and it tests ok), you may also want to try removing one memory stick (if you have two) and try to start the system. If you get the same problem, put the stick back in and remove the other one. If the problem seems to be tied to one of the memory sticks, try that stick in both memory slots just to make sure it's not the memory slot.

If none of this yields any usable results then we have 3 options left. The first option is to see if you can find another hard drive of the same size or another I6000, and swap the drive out. This will tell you if the problem is with the software/hard drive or some other piece of hardware.

The next option is  Microsoft's solution. As you can see, it's a pretty involved process so if it's something you feel you can do, great, if not, lets move on.

The third option is the infamous OS reinstall. If you've never reinstalled the OS on your system before you should have a hidden recovery partition that will be able to load the OS, drivers, and pre-loaded software for you with little to no effort on your part. Be advised that this will erase all of your data so if you haven't taken measures to attempt to get the data off of the drive, now is the time to do it. To access the partition turn on the machine and hold down and tap on . You may miss it the first time, if so, just try it again.

If the drive doesn't have the hidden partition on it you would have to reinstall the old fashion way, with the CD's. I hope there's helpful information somewhere in here for you, good luck!

    Mike.
