You can, but you'll likely need a refurbished or used model - this isn't a current-production notebook.

I have a line on one that is almost identical, but wondering if Win7 will give me problems with activation since it would be a different motherboard and CPU even if they are the same type they are physically different. I am not sure how all that works, any info on that?

OEM copies of Windows don't need activation.

Thanks for the quick reply! I bought the E6500 from Dell with XP downgrade as I did not want Vista. I have since bought/upgraged to Win7 Professional (non OEM). Do you see any issues there? Not trying to get around licensing by any means. I commute to work by bike and would rather move my SSHD back and forth over the powerful, but heavy Latitude.

Do you happen to know of a Dell laptop/netbook that is small, powerful capable of running dual monitors and has an available docking station? I develop software for a living. Love the power and display of all of my Latitudes I have ever owned, but need a commute friendly system if I can't make two E6500's work with one HDD.

If it's a retail copy of Windows, it will have trouble with activation.  Just configure the two systems identically and transport your data on a flash drive or external hard drive.

Small and powerful are at odds with each other.   The Latitude and Precisions are the only ones with docking options - there are some smaller ones, but you will sacrifice performance for portability.  That is inevitable.
