Two Issues with D620. Please Help

Please help...

We bought a wave of D620 laptops a few months ago and really like them, but I have had to either reinstall drivers or remove Windwows Media Player via Add/Remove Windows Components within Add/Remove Programs on several occasions on three or four of these laptops. It seems to happen only on certain ones. But, I just got a call today on another one. Any ideas, why this is happening?

Also, I have one user that is annoyed by a beep of the internal speaker that beeps when she closes a Tax Return in third party tax software. This occurs even when her system is Muted. I've verified w/ Tax that it's not a setting with their software and I've looked in the BIOS to find nothing regarding Sound/Audio.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

On the systems that you are having to reload drivers and media player, most software corruption is cause by people installing things but its always a good idea to run diagnostics to see if there may be a hardware issue.
The beep caused when the Tax program closes is probably under control panel/sounds and audio device properties/sounds
There is a close program sound, you may want to see if it has a wav associated with it.

Check out this thread..." Forum Home > Business Systems > Latitude > Audio > VERY LOUD Beep"

This looks like a low-level hardware/system interrupt issue. Very annoying but at least you can disable it.

Have anyone had any luck with the sigma tel audio yet?  I am having the same problem with numerous D620s as well.  I have just been putting links on the users desktops to reinstall the drivers as it is happening so often

I also have the same issues on a D620.  The user also uses a PR01X Dock. I have updated the BIOS and the System drivers but the problem is still occurring.

If this was happening as a result of a network state change, that would make some sense to me.  That isn't the case, though.  I have sat there and watched as both have snuffed it at the same time, and the laptop hasn't been moved from the docking station.

Frustrating doesn't begin to cover it...I have three IT folks expending far to much energy patching this on a daily basis only to have to do it again the next day.

Sounds like a call to our sales rep is in order to shake some trees.

The workstation service sounds a lot like the problem we have with the D820's and the RPC service needing to be restarted when the network state changes (undocking, redocking), but i havent checked to see if that is also when the sound goes goofy.  There seem to be alot of driver issues with the DX20 series laptops and i wish they would try to address them, or at least let people know they are aware of the problems and working on a fix.  There has been no recognition of the problem, only workarounds to the symptoms..

I am having the same problem with all of my D620s...and I have a lot of them.

The audio devices just disappear...but there's another wrinkle, too.

It seems that when this happens, the Workstation service stops itself as well and the laptop no longer allows the user to access network resources nor is the computer browsable from the network.  I wouldn't think that these two issues would be related, but every time the audio driver dies, the Workstation service does as well.

I have spoken to Dell support twice about this issue and the only thing I was able to get from them was that I should reinstall both the Notebook System Software and the Audio driver.  I have done this on every one of the laptops, but it is not a viable permanent fix as the Audio devices are gone again...sometimes the next day and sometimes in minutes.  I have also gone in and set the Workstation service to automatically restart itself should it fail, and that seems to have fixed that issue.

There HAS to be a permanent solution to this issue from Dell.  There are far too many people experiencing the Audio issue.

as far as the BEEP over the system speaker.... the BEEP that many programs produce... like Workpace, anti-rsi software used in thousands of companies.... that BEEP tells the user a break is required or a BEEP telling us it's tea-break or BEEP it's lunchtime....

Getting annoyed with all the BEEPs ?

So are thousands of corporate laptop users...

I almost got a heart-attack from the loud BEEP sounds in the office - my users complain about the scare they get in a quiet hotel-room, and i believe that's bad....

With the D620 you get a system speaker, but no way to control it.
    No volume control at all.

The above was confirmed to us by Dell.
The "no volume control" part, that is ... |-\
