When I plug my portable MP-3 player, 3.5 floppy drive, or jump drive into the usb ports and try to access the data I get a "this disc is not formatted would you like to format it?" When you try to format these devices it say's "windows unable to format this disc".  I have used these devices on this laptop many times for over a year, the usb ports are ok because the printer works fine in every one.  I have tried all of the help screens to solve this problem but the devices are working normally.  What happened? and how can I keep this from happening again?  I have used the restore feature to put the defaults back to an earlier time when it would read these devices but it is still the same.  These devices would allow me access as soon as I plugged them in without having to load drivers or anything (plug n’ play).

 

O.K.! Now I think I've tried everything.  Did I mention the laptop recognizes these devices, that they work fine on my desktop machine, and that the USB ports all function fine with a mouse or printer (not memory storage devices).  The help screens don't address the problem.
