2405FPW -- buzzing noise when on?

Hey fellow Dell customers,

I just got the 2405FPW monitor this past weekend. A great monitor on all counts but one thing. When the monitor is on, I hear this slight buzzing noise from the rear of the monitor. It's louder where the power plug is, so I have a feeling it has to do with the integrated power supply.

Can you guys test your 2405FPW panels to see if it also does this buzzing thing? The easiest way to do it is to simply power on your monitor with no inputs and let it do its self-test color-bar thing. Stick your head behind the monitor on the right side and if you hear a buzzing noise - much like a flourescent light's ballast buzz - please let me know.

...trying to figure out if it's worth an exchange or if all units are going to buzz like this!

    whacking,

What all do you have connected to the 2405 fp?  When does it start making the noise? Any information that you can provide will help in resolving the issue with the LCD.

    joe jet,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Dell is currently looking into this issue. I will post information once I get a response back from the Engineers.

    whacking,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

Monitors will make noise.  The fact that yours is making noise doesn't automatically mean there's something wrong.  This might sound a little strange but one thing you can try is going to an electronic store and ask a sales rep to let you listen to one and see if yours and see how it compares to yours.

I would recommend that you do this as soon as possible.  The reason is that you have 21 days to return it for a new exchange or a full refund if you feel the noise is just not worth it.  There are users who would rather have a quiet monitor even if the display is not as good.  That's a decision you would have to make.  I just want to make sure you act quickly so you don't get stuck with something you don't like.

I don't think they should buzz or whine. Many other LCD monitors that I've used at work and at home are all quiet unless they get old and their flyback transformers or power inverters start to go bad.

    But thanks for the suggestion.

    Has anyone else experienced anything?

Got the buzzing also. I have already requested a replacement. LCD's shouldn't BUZZ, unless the inverter is going bad. The monitor looks great and I hate to chance getting another one with dead pixels, but for the money, it better be da-mn near perfect. Good Luck.

I posted on that other question too. All flats will make noise to some point, just depends on who makes it and the parts used.I also wanted to meantion that this is a 24'' so it has to have one h-ll of a transfomer for the lamps. But also should be insulated enough to stop the noise. It might be as i said on the other post one of the cuts dell made to undercut the rest.I hope this isnt true as it doesnt take much to insulate a proper transformer...Myself i would take this over the light leakage aka 2005fpw...
    Just turn up the music:smileywink:

Yes i noticed the same problem: this flat screen make a buzzzz noise from power supply.
I can hear mine too even if my ear isn't directly against the bezel.
I asked DELL support about this problem, waiting an answer

got mine today.  looks great.  all the pixels look great.  but i got the buzzing sound.  actually i'd call it more of a whining sound.  it gets louder as i move the brigtness up, and softer as i move the brightness down.  if it doesn't stop (maybe it's related to being new?), i'm going to have to return it because the sound is loud and high pitched.

Yes I do have very high pitched noise coming from the unit, it gets louder the longer the monitor is up and running.  It is extremely annoying.  It's a very high pitched cycle that drills into my ears and drives me crazy.

Anyone gotten a definitive answer on this? I will return my 2405FPW asap, but should I expect the same thing on the next monitor?... is this normal? It's super quiet for the first hour! Then it gives me a headache...
