Grainy screen

My monitor display is always grainy. I have tried re-installing the ATI drivers as well as checking the wires from the monitor to the CPU. Neither have worked. My copmuter still functions properly but this grainy appearance is driving me nuts.

I am having the same exact problem, and it's very annoying. Have you found anything to solve the problem? I would really like to know!

    Thanks.

I, also, am having this problem.  I just bought a refurb 2001fp direct from Dell.  Out of the box, it looks terrible.  About half of the colors are perfectly fine; the other half have tv-like static constantly dancing.  I'm currently exchanging tech support emails...I fear I'll have to pack up this beast & send it back.  Please reply if you've found some fixable glitch.

    FOLLOW-UP TO MY PREVIOUS POST:

In total I cycled through three (supposedly refurbished) 2001fp monitors.

     - The first had the dancing pixel/graininess problem mentioned above.  After several emails to tech support, I finally convinced them that it was a hardware problem.  They sent another one; I sent mine back.

     - The second was sans graininess but had an always-illuminated white stripe running vertically through the entire height of the monitor.  Same story: several tech support emails, eventually convincing them that the monitor was busted.  They sent another one; I sent mine back.

     - The third (and final) monitor was perfectly fine. I'm typing on it right now.

Morals of the story:  Refurbished Dell LCDs are risky business.  The refurbishing process involves repackaging a broken monitor and hoping some schmuck will just live with the malfunctions.  Dell's online tech support was eventually helpful, despite several cookie-cutter responses to an obvious hardware problem.  Be very specific in dealing with them, and be sure to make it plainly obvious that the monitor is BROKEN.  The money I saved in buying refurbished definitely did not offset the 3-4 weeks that it took to get it right.  Buy new, get the full warranty.
