Shadow behind desktop icons

I'm sure that this is a simple fix, but I can't figure it out.  Out of nowhere one day, I got shading behind the writing on my desktop icons.  I can go into properties and choose other colors for the shades to be, but I can't make it clear like it used to be.  How do I fix this?

Thanks

In XP, Go to System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings.
Scroll down the list and check 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop'. If it is already checked try unchecking then re-checking it.

If the 'Use drop shadows for icon labels' option has no effect

I found the problem after following the link in your reply.  I had a box checked in the web tab under the customize my desktop in display properties.  After I unchecked that box, my icons went back to transparent.  Thanks.
