Problem: Max screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 Laptop: Dell Precision 6800 Graphics Card: Nvidia Quadro K4100M Dual-Monitors: 2x Dell U2713HM
Laptop is connected to a Dell docking station that has 2 single link DVI outputs as well as 2 display port outputs. This is more than the laptop has by itself. It has 2 HDMI and one VGA output. The graphics card is pretty high end and should be more than capable of displaying screen resolutions in excess of 1920x1080. I could have gotten these resolutions out of a $200 LCD Tv. These are $700 monitors! I have read some solutions saying that you need to use a double link DVI to achieve higher resolutions, but the monitors didn't come with these cables. And my docking station nor the laptop has ports for these either.
Could I use a display port to double link dvi adaptor with double link dvi cables? Would this configuration work? How about simply using display port cables?
How can i get resolutions of 2560x1440 out of these monitors using my set-up? My company invested a lot of money in a all Dell set-up for me and it's not performing optimally and I need to get it corrected.
Using DP to DP should give you the higher resolution but there is only one DP on the monitor. I do not know which dock to choose. You should ask the guys on the Laptop forum.
The DVI cable (HCX4X) we ship with the U2713HM is DVI-D Dual Link. It is the same cable that we ship on the 3007WFP-HC, 3008WFP, U3011, U3014. So if it is connected from the U2713HM to the dock and you cannot get 2560x1440, the docks port must be Single Link. List the specific Dell dock model and part number.

The numbers I posted are off the bottom of the docking station. It has two display ports. Currently I am running the monitors off of those display ports using a display port to single link dvi adapter.
I was using straight dvi to dvi, but I threw in the adapter to see if that would make a difference.
Do you think If I got a dual link dvi to display port adapter this might solve my problem? Or used strictly display port cables only? or do I need a different docking station?
There is one DP on each of my monitors, and my docking station has 2 DP's, so I've got just the right amount. I'll give it a try. I'll order two DP cables.
The M6800 sales site list this dock = E-Port Plus Replicator with 130w power adapter cord Ports: Optimized for dual monitors with support for VGA, Two DVI, Two Display Ports (2560x1600), Serial, Parallel, Two PS/2, Five USB, eSATA/USB port Manufacturer Part: YP126 Dell Part: 430-3114
