White Flickering Lines on 1702FP Flat Panel

I've read through previous posts here on this problem without finding a solution.  One post declares that it's the monitor itself (which I agree with - in self-test mode the monitor is completely disconnected from the computer, and the lines are there) but with no solution on how to fix it.

They show up for several weeks and then disapear completely for awhile, only to return again.

This is maddening - has anyone else found a solution for this, or should I send it airborne off the roof?

What I do is whenever something is messing up I send it to the company I purcahsed it from and explain what the problem is. Usually I get a new one back or they fix it for free. I did this with my ps2 and a golf club that broke. They Gave me a hole new golf club and sony fixed my ps2.

Is it still under warranty ?  Stand alone monitors with the Dell brand on it has a three year warranty.  If you buy it with the system, than what ever Dell's policy was at the time  ( Three year warranty on the system translate to three years on the monitor, two year warranty on the system, than only two years on the monitor )  This policy may have changed again, and others will weigh in on that matter.

Try another video card driver, Use the reset button on the monitor to see if this works.  Make that you have no shielded speakers near the monitor that may mess it up.  Check the cables or even change them.  They do go bad from time to time.   If possible, try the monitor on another system in your home or friends, or try another monitor on the current system.  Sorry, cannot come up with any more ideas....  Good luck

I've done all the troubleshooting procedures, and the monitor is 6 mos. out of warranty (of course), so I guess the rooftop toss may be the best option after all.

Thank you both for your responses.

If you can, try a new cable, and do it before throwing the monitor out.  Some of Dell's monitor cables for the 1702 / 1703 monitors are problematic as I read a while back.  Not sure if that is your problem.  Get a coupon if available to get a better price on a new monitor

Coupon sites to look at.....Deals come and go all the time

Wow - if it could just be as simple as a new cable!  You may have saved this monitor's life.

Thanks for all of your help - and have a fantastic new year.

Hope its just the cable.......Don't know for sure.   Got a heads up on a site sometime ago, stating that Dell's monitor cable for the 1703 and maybe even the 1702 had some lousy cables that could be problematic.  I changed my stock cable on the 1703 I have and had no problems for about a year now....  This is not a given, and I don't want you to spend more money on something that may not work... Wish you could find another cable and just try it out first....  Good luck to ya
