Go to SolutionNetworker can not see new CDL 4100
I have a NetWorker server that is currently attached to IBM 3584 tape library. I needed to attach it to CDL 4100 which is also emulating IBM 3584, when everything was completed and i actually saw new tape drives and changer in device manager i could not get NetWorker to recognize the library. When i run inquire i get this:
\\.\Tape6 and \\.\Tape5 are the physical library, while the other 044C drives are from CDL. I am guessing this is the problem and they should show up just like the physical drives. Any ideas what i could try next ?

RSM is disabled, we are emulating the same drive type as on the physical library (IBM 3592 drives). In device manager everything looks good, we install the same ibm drivers that we used for physical drives. We bounce the box a few times too ..no luck.649

I assume CDL library is on 5.2.0... if you do sjirdtag 5.2.0 do you get expected output?
Also, what version of NW is that? inquire output looks like pre-7.3.x version. I shortly had tested 7.2.2 with CDL under HPUX and it worked, but with 7.3.x drivers were recognized by inquire as Virtual Drives and officially support was virtual drives was added somewhere in 7.3.x so we went on with that version.649

From inquire output those drives do not have drive address associated - that usually indicates tape drives does not exist or it is not hooked to new drive. I assume you emulate same drives as on physical library so that should not be your case. Try inquire -cl command to avoid inquire using system cache. Also, check device manager to see if it complains about new tape drives as driverless. Most importantly, make sure RSM is disabled.
Btw, are you really running everything over 1 HBA?649

Also, in device manager you should see device paths. What do you get when you test them with mt -f status? All normal?649

before we get into details let me tell you what we are trying to do. Let me know if its doable, forget my original post.
We have purchased a storage node license ( i think that what its called), right now we have a networker server 7.x .. we want to setup another system that will be configured as storage client, i will present CDL lirary to this node and then register this node within Networker. My altimate goal is to run backup on the storage node while all the metadata/schedules etc is stored on the Networker server. Do you have exprience with this kind of setup ? As you probably guessed i am not a networker admin but i am responsible for backup infrastructure.649

sorry ..i could not run these commands ..when i presented these new drives, it re-numbered physical drives, so i had to pull CDL drives away to keep backups running tonight. We decided to go with storage node option, so i will present CDL library to a brand new box and i guess register it with NetWorker. Any good documentation you can point to on how to set it up ?

Check jbconfig manual. If you present CDL on box (including "robotics") go to cmd and run jbconfig -s and just follow instructions (go for autodetected library option). Before you do this you may wish to make sure you know what is physical and corresponding logical (OS) device order. Usually NW knows this itself and will do it by itself for you during jbconfig.352

Are you talking about built in SN inside CDL? That one is based on early 7.3 code so I would stay away from that.649

You can also buy a built in storage node license for the DL4100.
