I installed a Networker server 7.5.1 SP1 in W2K3 platform. Here is a SAN backup and jbconfig is used for configure the tape library. The model of library is ML6020. When i test the library such as just mount a tape or label a tape, it's fine to mount or label, but got strange problem after doing the first function. The library can't be controlled by Networker. The robotlic arm is continue moving in the library even i didn't give ant command to it. Also, it failed all of the function such as mount or label the tape. I need to restart all of the service so that the library resumes normal.
Anyone have this strange problem before? I reinstall the Networker and the OS already but the problem still here. Please help
If restarting NW services resolves your problem, this could be a Networker issue. How would suggest going to EMC support.
Before that, just make sure Removeable Storage Service is disabled & stopped, zonigng is proper and implement (if not allready done) persistent binding to make sure your setup is complete and away from known problems.
I already create a support call on EMC. However, they still haven't any idea or solution that can fix the problem. Thus, I really hope i can get any suggest or solution in here
In addition, Removeable Storage Service is disabled & stopped but still not work.
This is a good idea to check. I think we need to go back to basics and check out everything appears to be okay and that your server can see the library.
Two questions I have:
1. Does the library appear to be accepting control from somewhere else? Do you have any other backup servers which may be doing this or is this your only backup server?
2. Secondly, you say after you restart the library you can control the library? How long does that last for?
Restart the Networker services, even shutdown the OS also may not fix the problem. Then, i reinstall the tape library driver. Using window default driver "unknown media changer" instead of dell library driver itself. The library seems more stable. At least shutdown the OS must solve the robotlic arm issue.
Also, i found that the tape library will do some inventory action after any Networker command sent to him. For example, if mount action sent, you have to wait the library inventory finished after mount OK. If you send any command to the library in this moment. The action will failed, and the library will move the robotlic arm forever... until you stop the Networker services.
I dont know if it is solution or not, but at least i can backup any data successfully
