PowerConnect 3348 Internal MAC Errors
Hello,
I've been troubleshooting a minor connectivity problem in my network. Intermittantly, a client pc will report itself as "offline" even though it is not. Simply telling it to go back online always works. Anyway, during this process I checked the logs on the PowerConnect 3348 and found over 400,000 internal MAC errors. I don't know what those are. I deleted the logs until it showed 0 errors. A few days later I checked again, and it was back up to over 200,000 internal MAC errors.
Can somebody tell me what an internal MAC error is or what I might look for? Could it have anything to do with my connectivity problem?

Unfortunately, there is no specific definition for the "Internal MAC transmit errors" counter. It is basically just a counter of how many frames were not able to be transmitted due to MAC sublayer problems. It is used as a catch-all counter for any transmit errors not defined by other Etherlike statistic counters.
These types of errors are typically related to a physical layer problem.
If you have ports on which you are not seeing these errors, I would suggest moving the problematic systems to these known-good ports and see if the errors follow the system. If so, you should try swapping cables and updating the NIC drivers.
