Cannot ping gateway IP

Dimmension 2400 PC running MS XP Pro connected to router; running fine for over 1 year.  Two weeks ago cannot access Internet.  System acquires a valid IP address but when I try to ping gateway IP, message: "IP address unreachable".  Tried new cable, new network card, new router; same message.  Any suggestions?

    turn off any firewalls u have on both comps and try pinging again.nortons especially will block any internal network if not configured right

    Turned firewall off on PC and router.  Still couldn't ping gateway.  Thanks

    Try the Winsock fix.

    Google "Winsock repair."

    Look for the link to "Winsock it to me."

    Follow the insructions.

    Quite a bit of the time, the problem is with a corrupted Winsock function.
