What is the proper setting for the Dell WLAN 1350 Antenna Diversity Setting (Enabled or Disabled). I am experiencing extremely low signal strength of this adapter when attempting to communicate to a Linksys WRT54G Router. Both the router and Dell WLAN 1350 have the latest firmware. The system is a new laptop and I have spent a couple of hours on the phone with Dell Technical support in an attempt to resolve this issue. Typically the 9100 is reporting either low or very low signal strenght with the Antenna Diversity Setting Enabled. I was able to get a good and excellant signal strength with the Antenna Diversity Setting Disabled. The reported data rate is 54Mbps at a distance of less that 3 feet away from the router.
I have a IBM Laptop with a MiniPCI Ciscio Adpater that reports Good to Excellant reading throughtout my house and the the Dell has yet to match the same level of performance.
Dell is sending me a new 1350 adapter to try and if that doesn't work they want to replce the laptop computer.
Any suggestions or recomendations would be appreciated.
If the new 1350 card doesn't help to increase the signal, you may have to think about changing your wireless router. I also had low signal on on my 1350 with the Linksys router. I ended up changing to the WRT54GS and now my signal strength is back up to very good. It may have been a weak radio in the WRT54G or the WRT54GS possibly has a stronger signal.
I am going to force Dell to make this one work with the Linksys Router that I have since it is apparent that this is a issue specific to the 1350 adapter or to the placement of the antenna inside the 9100 computer case.

I would like to join you in that argument. I have an I8500 I bought last year, and I made the mistake of putting on the latest drivers. I have a new WRT54G 2.0 router and I get REALLY poor signal with with the 1350 and the WRT54G. As a contrast, as an IBM thinkpad with a PCMCIA 54g from Linksys has INCREDIBLE signal half the house away from the router, whereas my I8500 is just ONE WALL away ! I've tried a replacement antenna ( one with 3 times the DB capability ). However, check out www.sveasoft.com, as I understand that the newer WRT's have had their signal output strength lowered by Linksys. What I do know is that before I updated the drivers to the latest on DELL's site, the signal quality with this same router, WAS BETTER.

I can confirm Linksys is playing around with the signal, with their latest firmware updates for the WRT54G. I had v2.02.7, and my signal was always "Very Good" to "Excellent". I tried beta v2.02.8 and the new v2.04.3 just released this week. My signal dropped
to "Very low" to "Low", in the exact same spot, I flashed back to 2.02.7, and the signal went back to "Excellent".
I'm running the SVEA firmware in my WRT54G and have a very good signal. One of the many improvements over the Linksys version is an adjustment for the power that the router uses to send its signal to the antenna. The Linksys default is around 24 with the maximum being 84.

Cool. Is it possible to go back to the Linksys firmware if I don't like SVEA version?
You can go back to the Linksys or other compatible firmware just by flashing the router bios as usual. No problem, but, as always, have the unit on a backup power supply while you flash to avoid turning the unit into a decorative but useless desk object d'art if there is a power outage. Of course, the same applies to computers and anything else with a flashable bios. I had that happen once with a DSL modem. Luckily, it was under warranty and it was replaced.

I just flashed it, and it's excellent. Changing the power works as expected. Another nice feature is the "auto channel" selector, which automatically selects a clear channel.
