E1405 Wireless Quits

I have an E1405 that came with XP but I installed Vista Ultimate on it. Vista seems to work just fine.

I keep the machine powered on all the time (virus scans, updates, etc. while I sleep) and sometimes, when I sit down to work, I see that the network icon has a X through it.

I run through the usual steps of tryng to connect to a network and Vista says there are no networks!!

I have a Broadcom 802.11g wireless netwrok adapter (BCM43XV) and cannot find any drivers at Dell or at Broadcom!!

How do I troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks.

Download the driver from support.dell.com website, search for this filename: R174292.EXE. Run and install the this driver and the broadcom 802.11g will show up as Dell Wireless 1390 or 1395.

Are you saying that the wireless device I have is the same as a Dell Wireless 1350/1370/1390/1395/1450/1470/1490/1500/1505?

Can you offer proof of some sort? I'm concerned that installing the wrong driver coud screw things up badly.

    Thanks.

There's only 2 brand of wireless adapter installed on all dell laptops. They're Intel and Broadcom but dell rebranded the broadcom adapter as Dell wireless adapter that contains broadcom chipset. I assure you that link i provided will be the correct driver for your wireless adapter base on the specs that you provided.

    Thanks.

On its initial screen, the install program did mention MXC061 (aka E1405) so I'm relieved. :-)
