Inspiron 6400 --Cannot get on internet or wireless network
I have a dinasour Inspiron 6400 which has been a computer. Just recently I have had issues with wireless conectivity.
Now the computer will not connect via lan or wireless. I am having to use my daughter's mini laptop that works fine so I it is definitely something wrong with the Inspiron 6400. I have tried everything I know to do with no success. Please help.
Restart your computer. Press F2 when you see the Dell Screen. This should take you in the BIOS. Look for wireless adapter and make sure it's enabled.
Save and exit.
Most wireless adapter turn on/off by pressing Fn and F2 , F2 or there is a switch on the side. Make sure the antenna light, if your computer has one is on.
Start, system, hardware, device manager, network, your network adapter. Any exclaimination marks or red x's there?
Which wireless adapter do you have installed?
You didn't recently try installing the operating system, did you?
Try downloading and installing in this order. Use Internet Explorer, then download the drivers in your browser. Save them to a flash drive or disk and then install them on the 6400.
Hopefully this will get you online to get any drivers needed.
If you go to Drivers & Downloads click on waranty status, then enter your service tag number, under origional configuration, you should be able to see which wireless adapter was installed from the factory.

Knowing which wireless adapter you have makes it easier to figure out.

Does your network adapter show up there? If so, what is listed?

glockfan,
Did this computer connect before?
Is the wireless adapter enabled in the BIOS?
Is the wireless adapter enabled in the device manager?
Does it show in the device manager?
Did you try running WinSock XP Fix on the computer?
