internet verification - truemobile 2300

Does anyone know what to do to have the setup software for the Truemobile 2300 verify your internet connection? I am connected via DSL, am positive the connection is ok, yet the router installation software won't acknowledge it.  I've tried everything. Oh, and I'm using Windows XP. Any ideas? Thanks.

Who is your ISP?  I had a similar problem with the same 2300 router not detecting the Internet.  Turns out Dell doesn't make a wireless router that is compatible with AOL Broadband Cable.  Not sure if that is your problem but before you spend even more time on what might be a lost cause, I suggest you check with Dell Tech Support and or your ISP to make sure the are compatible.

I have the exact same problem, and my ISP is Sprint Broadband Direct. I started poking around trying to figure out what might be wrong, and I found that my ISP has recently decided to block all ICMP packets indefinitely as a means to protect their network from malicious attacks. This means that it is now impossible to ping a site that is outside their firewall. I am contacting Dell to find out if they use ICMP packets to perform their verification. If anyone from Dell is reading this, is there a way to proceed with the installation without completing the internet verification?

So now after working on it a while, I've found that the best answer is DON'T USE THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM... configure the wireless router manually. I simply put the wireless router in place between my PC and cable modem, reset my cable modem, plugged in power to the router, booted the PC, opened up Internet Explorer, and logged directly into the router using its IP address ( http://192.168.2.1). Then I configured the router and began using it... and am using it now. Hopefully this message will help others save some time.

I was all set to post this info when I Iread you elequent post, so I gave it a 5 star also.  The setup software is supposed to help novice people get it working when in reality it adds all kinds of headaches to the problem.  The owner's manual and logging into the router is really painless and you learn about your connection in the process, and it is not a difficult thing to do or grasp.

Hi all - I'm having (I think) similar issues - with an Insprion 8600, the Truemobile 2300 and Comcast.  Installation of the routeer went fine, and when I turn on my laptop, it indicates that I am connected to wireless internet with a strong signal; yet when I click on the "Internet Explorer" icon, the page appears that says the page isn't available and there is no server detected.  I wondered if I had to run the router installation CD on my home system as well, but it's Windows ME and will not accept the Windows XP installation CD.

    Any suggestions?

    AC

Just make sure the TCP/IP settings for the home computer (Me) are set to obtain an ip address automatically, no gateway, and no DNS entries.

you dont need the router cd wizard to set up the connection.   connect a network cable to one of lan line on router.  go to start, run, type in winipcfg.  hit the release all and then renew all.   open IE, type in 192.168.2.1.   username and pw is admin.   go to basic setting, and internet connection setting and enter your isp setting.
