I recently purchased a sweex NIC, but on insertion the card is not recognised by Windows and fails to be installed either automatically or manually. Can anyone advise possible solution.
Well, if it was, then you wouldn't be asking! :-) I think you meant to say the card will run with ME. ME isn't likely to natively support the card since the card came much later... good luck!
Did the new card say it was compatible with ME? Presumably included drivers would have been for XP by default, if ME drivers don't exist on included media try downloading them from the manufacturer's web site.
[Technically, you should try the Dimension forum as this XPS forum is for the "new" XPS line - XPS 600, 400, 200, and presumably XPS gen 1-5.]

On a system that old, you might be having problems with IRQ conflicts. Check Device Manager and see if the card is sharing an IRQ with another device, or swap the PCI cards around in their slots until you find an arrangement that works.
