My M65 with Vista Business Edition (same issue with XP prior to upgrading) will randomly loose all or part of its network connection. The strange thing is that my MSN and Skype both are showing good connection but web and email looses connection. I have even been on a Skype call when my browser looses connection with all web pages and Outlook can't connect to the email server. I have searched high and low and can't find a reason.
The Network andSharing Center is reporting that all is OK, but if I click to Diagnose and repair it then finds that it can't connect to
www.microsoft.com and recomends to restart the NIC, which never helps. The same happens on WiFi, which is live at the same time.
The only way to restore connection is to reboot, which is obviously a pain. This happens once or twice a day at random hours. So far I have not experienced this when I am at home on my WiFi, but then at the office our router has been replace twice with no improvement.
Sounds like your DNS server is not working as it should for some reason. Start, Run, cmd.exe, OK to bring up a new black cmd screen. Type (with an Enter after each line):
ipconfig /all
(Note the DNS address. Put that in your next reply.)
I will have to try these things when the connection goes down, I guess, as I see the same as you do now. My host file only had these two lines:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
I tried to save it, but it did not allow me (Vista), but I don't think it matters right now.
I have placed a call with the "owner" of the DNS server to see if they have any clues. Are there any global DNS server I can use to see if that sorts problem?
