Problems with Truemobile 1184 and Broadband Phoneline Device (DTA310)
I recently received a DTA310 Terminal adapter from Packet8. For anyone who doesn't know, this device allows you to use your broadband internet to create a phone line for your home using a regular telephone. Knowing the frequent problems with peripherals and the Truemobile 1184, I should have known that this was coming...
Even though the DTA310 seems to be getting an IP from the router, it is having trouble connecting to its server. I have searched and searched and all I have found is that the DTA310 just doesn't work with the Truemobile 1184 router. I've tried everything including dedicating an IP to the device and opening all ports. I believe that the Truemobile 1184 doesn't really open ALL PORTS, not allowing this device to connect to its server (Similar to its previous Yahoo! Webcam problem). I tried the device on my friend's linksys router and of course, it works perfectly fine.
I contacted Dell to try to get support and it would have seemed like I spoke another language or that none of my questions were in their preformulated manual. I felt like I was talking to people who had just started yesterday and knew nothing about there own company's routers. I explained to 3 different people that there was simply a problem with this router's firmware, and the last person I talked to told me that he would submit a request for Dell to try the router with the DTA310. I also stressed my concern that this seems to be the only router that does not function with this device proving there is a PROBLEM needing there attention as the DTA310 becomes more popular.
The temporary fix to this problem required me to request a second IP from my provider and put a hub between the cable-modem and router. The DTA310 is directly connected to the hub (skipping the router all together) and the computers connect through the router, also connected to the hub.
I would hope that Dell would try to address this issue. I feel that I should not have to go buy another router, and that this piece of equipment should work like any other comparable router and allow me to configure this device (DTA310) to work (OPEN THE PORTS I TELL IT TO).
If anyone has any further information concerning this problem or some sort of solution, please post.
