wireless at hotel...

Hi I just checked in in a hotel with wireless high speed available. I have a 600m with the dell 1350 card. When it detected the wifi network, i got a security message saying this network was not secure and I just "connected anyway". Are there any settings I have to change on the Configuration of the network to make it "secure" ? thanks!

The warning was telling you that WEP security is not enabled on the access point...theres nothing you can do to it enable it (it has to be turned on at the AP), so make sure that anything you do with sensitive infomration (email, passwords, CC numbers, etc) is encrypted!

Depends on the application you are using. In a web browser, make sure you have the 'lock' icon in the bottom left corner, in your email app make sure that 'SSL' is turned on, etc.

    Matt,

Thanks for your previous answer. I have been using the network for a while now, I see the "lock" icon sometimes but not all the time, even when I am typing in passwords. Is there a setting I should apply to increase security? I have McAffee firewall running also. What about instant messaging? Im more worried about the passwords....what should I do? thanks!
