Audio Services Not Responding

Hello I have an OptiPlex 7020 running Windows 10 64 bit connected to a Dell P2715Q monitor via a DP to DP cable. I'm trying to connect speakers to hear sound. When I use windows audio troubleshooter I get "Audio Services Not Responding" and my issue is not resolved. I get no sound whatsoever from connecting the speakers to the computer or to the monitor. I'm not sure where to go from here. I have googled the problem and followed the advice for the Device Manager and services.msc and still have no sound. What am I missing? Tom.

Most Obvious issue is that drivers are missing.

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kxg7w

    https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER04898481M/1/7020-win10-A04-KXG7W.CAB

    Download the cab file.

Move the download into the documents folder.

    Install 7zip.

    https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Right click on the cab file in the documents folder and say EXTRACT HERE.

    Go into device manager

    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System

and for HD Audio devices right click the device manager and say update driver from my machine instead of from the internet.

It will install the OEM Driver for the HD audio hardware.

    Then reboot and check again.

YOU CANNOT POINT to a cab file.  The cab must be extracted.

DP does support sound just as does HDMI

    That's actually wrong.

Only Display port ++ (Dual Mode) does and this is optional not standard. DisplayPort Dual-Mode (DP++), also called Dual-Mode DisplayPort, is a standard which allows DisplayPort sources to use simple passive adapters to connect to HDMI or DVI displays. Dual-mode is an optional feature, so not all DisplayPort sources necessarily support audio and DVI/HDMI passive adapters.

    https://www.displayport.org/

The other issue is that Dual mode Display port ++ is unavailable on USB-C

The DisplayPort Dual Mode specification for sending DisplayPort signals over a USB-C cable does not include support for the dual-mode protocol. As a result, DP-to-DVI and DP-to-HDMI passive adapters do not function when chained from a USB-C to DP adapter.

hardware is first, and  connections, not software. (sw is a 2nd thing) cart before the horse rules. of life)

but we test both audio sound jacks 3.5mm with earbuds first.

if those are dead. or the windows sounds are  showing sound is dead or the device manager shows both sound devices dead, then drivers are missing

did you use windows plug and play first to get that working or is internet dead../

why not go to your dell support page and get the win10 drivers, there, and load them if drivers are dead.

in act get them all and squirrel them away for later. (make folder 7020 drivers) keep them . or back them up to a thumb drive.
